A multi-agency, multi-disciplinary team was established in Cardiff, using the best design resources available. This team worked in close contact with nomad to develop a coherent message, accross product and brand.
Wheelchairs are traditionally practical, medical products, engineered out of function, with very little consideration to how the product looks. nomad wished to develop a product that had actually been designed. A brand new concept for a wheelchair was therefore developed by assessing existing solutions, discussions with trade professionals and end users, and creation of a brief. Features and detail were then incorporated into the new product. This included a brand new approach to frame design and build (studio sda), and a focus on seating upholstery, by introducing a swappable accessory in the upholstery covers - a first in the industry (attic2).
A positive, modern, aspirational brand was then devloped (Elfen), in line with corporate values, product positioning and target market.
Product: the mrk1 was designed, developed and launched. Setting a new milestone in wheelchair design, the mrk1 combines a stunning aesthetic with first class functionality. Detailing on the frame includes newly applied technology, completely original parts and an entirely new seating system
Brand: Corporate literature was designed, marketing materials were developped, a superb online presence was ahieved and a very successful advertising campaign was launched. nomad is currently the brand that all exhibitions wish to attract, in order to raise the profile of events.
In summary, the wheelchair is gaining a reputation for being the best looking product on the market, and the brand is industry-leading. As a result, nomad has successfully entered a very competitive market.
