Aimed at the family audience, the Merlin website will open the doors of Camelot and welcome online users into a mythical world created for the 13 part BBC One fantasy drama series.
Forbidden magic is a key theme of the programme - supported by a 'keep the magic secret' marketing campaign. Fans will transport themselves around this immersive flash environment using secret mouse 'gestures' and use the Scrying Glass to magically uncover hidden secrets and content from anywhere across the site.
A video rich site, bbc.co.uk/merlin will provide previews, exclusive clips and access to full versions of the episodes during transmission period. It will feature further info about the episodes and characters and provide image downloads and games.
To use backdrops of familiar scenes and objects from the show to create a beautifully rich and lively site that enhances the Merlin brand online. Each section is disctinctive, full of details to explore and is always consistent with the look and feel of the TV offering. Transitions transport the user from one location or section of the website to the next.
The result:
Homepage - A striking homepage allowing for a weekly refresh of the site to preview next Episode and link to hidden content.
Episodes section - To showcase video previews, exclusive clips and provide a hub for all content related to each episode from across the site.
To provide a prominent visual link to watch the full episode on iPlayer.
Characters section - To showcase web exclusive character profile video for both regular good characters and one-off weekly villains and provide a hub for all content related to each character.
Videos section - To showcase exclusive web magic spells as well as collate video from other areas of the site.
Images section - Gallery for image downloads. Ability to view by character and by episode
Games section - Index for 2 games and augmented reality application.
