A solution was required that challenged the way materials are used in order to provide a more environmentally aware magazine holder that still fitted into the Mode design language.
One area of environmental concern identified, is the shipping and distribution of materials around the world to supply a global network of retailers and wholesalers.
The preferred direction for the project was to combine lightweight materials with a design that used the minimum amount of material. The magazine holder needed to hold many magazines, but weigh as little as possible and use the minimum package space.
Using fully recyclable aluminium and an economic production method, ‘Mag-E’ was able to answer the challenges of the brief. Sold in packs of 6 as well as individually for promotional purposes, Mag-E fully maintains the commercial aspirations of the project.
The packaged product containing 6 Mag-E’s weighs a mere 70 grams and is approximately the size of a pack of playing cards. By changing the way magazines are stored and displayed from the usual way ‘Mag-E’ is a contemporary, design-led home accessory with a minimal impact on the environment.
Mag-E is a magazine rack with a difference. Using the super strong self adhesive pad provided, Mag-E can be stuck to almost any smooth wall surface and very neatly grabs the magazine by the spine ready for quick reading. Each Mag-E is tiny and virtually invisible when in use yet can hold a magazine up to a kilo in weight and as thick as 1cm. Now you can display your favourite magazines as you like, it’s up to you how you arrange them. Sold as a pack of 6 for only £12.
