Mae gen ti ddewis (You have a choice) TV Campaign

Design Agency:
Peter Gill & Associates
Client:
Welsh Language Board
Brief:
Peter Gill & Associates won a competitive pitch for the Welsh Language Board who were looking to launch a new bilingual campaign. The 'Mae gen ti ddewis' (You have a choice) campaign had two main aims (1) To promote the Welsh Language Services offered by specific public bodies / organisations (2) To create a thought-probing ‘emotive’ campaign to encourage Welsh speakers to use the language. The brief also required a new identity which was then applied to a number of applications. For the main MGTD brand and TV advert it was decided to use four icons along with the existing Welsh Language Board colour palette. To move the campaign on from the previous 'oops' route we decided not to use people to front the campaign on TV. The brief was to create and develop the ‘mae gen ti ddewis’ brand, including a strong and memorable TV and cinema advertisement.

Using the mae gen ti ddewis brand, created by PGA, we decided to explore the animation route by working with the four icons, a pen, phone, mouse and face to face image.

PGA worked with Dynamo illustration to bring the icons to life through a 2D linear route. Eye catching animation and specially composed music gave the advert stand out and a female voice over helped to encourage people to use their Welsh more. Welsh and bilingual language versions were produced with 40 second spots on ITV Wales and S4C.

The result:

This engaging campaign proved very popular with the target audience. Feedback showed that the animation route was different and well received as it was fun and upbeat without being preachy. It also portrayed the Welsh language in a positive way.

Design discipline:

The Festival is convened and facilitated by Cardiff School of Art & Design at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) in collaboration with partners from the creative industries and other public bodies and private businesses.
