People's Collection Wales

Brief

The brief was to create an online platform to engage the target audience & make them want to explore Wales’ cultural history. Aimed at a wide range of users, the site had to be accessible & direct the audience to key sections of the site. For users interested in browsing, the design needed to draw them in. The site had to appeal to casual web users as well as containing cool functionality to attract a tech-savvy audience & display historical information in a stylish way in both English & Welsh.

Result

An innovative & stylish blend of modern design, leading technology & historical information, the site immerses users & stimulates them to upload their own stories & experiences to the archive to be shared with others. The People’s Collection site is supported by the Trails Cymru mobile app (created by Sequence) which allows users to share & discover trails whilst on the move. Within 4 months of the soft launch the site contained over 24,000 items with contributions growing on a daily basis.

Solution

We created an API for stakeholders to publish content to their sites & People’s Collection. Users can add their own stories so the collection will grow as people engage with it. Interactive maps layer Bing, OS & archived maps so users can compare current & historic views of Wales. Story Builder allows users to create their own story by adding images, videos & audio into a timeline using drag & drop functionality & search can be narrowed via a timeline slider to filter results by time periods.
