Graduate Fashion Week student look book/exhibition brand.

Brief

Design the branding for University of Wales, Newport, Graduate Fashion Week student look book and exhibition panels, 2011. Branding to be bold and contemporary, reflecting the forward thinking nature of the course which has a huge emphasis on detail and craft. Book must be produced to a very tight budget. Book and exhibition must reflect the individuality of each of the 32 students whilst retaining consistency and reinforcement of the Fashion course brand.

Result

During Graduate Fashion week at Earls Court, June 2011, Mark Jackson, Academic Leader in Design said, "We've been overwhelmed by the positive feedback about the book and exhibition panels. They became a talking point for all our visitors at our Graduate Fashion Week exhibition. They became a focal point for our students to benefit from seeing their work represented in such a professional context – this book has literally launched the careers and changed the aspirations of this years graduates"

Solution

To avoid the usual fashion cliches, we developed an individual typeface using fashion dot and cross pattern cutting paper, which is used by the students for fabric pattern cutting. This theme was used throughout all brand executions. We also used 12 student photographers from the BA (Hons) Photography for Fashion and Advertising Course, who worked with stylists, make-up artists and the fashion students themselves. Over 60 student garments and 10 models over a three day photo shoot.
