Festival 11 - quick update on plans

Brains were buzzing on Monday night with about 40 designers, architects and design thinkers meeting up at Chapter to announce their plans the next Cardiff Design Festival, what events they would love to see run again and to generally discuss how the Festival can be developed. We want to it celebrate and promote design in the very best way it can.

This year’s Festival will run from Friday 30 September with a closing party on Saturday 15 October and we’re already pencilling in events in the diary. Design Wales are hoping to run their hugely popular colour and trend day again as well an event to mark a year since the launch of the Design Manifesto. ThinkArk are planning a games day and a day of talks on games with a social slant and the South Wales Design Circle is keen to organise an advice and networking event for small businesses. The design pub quiz is to be revived - despite being voted the hardest quiz ever - and there are also exciting plans for a contemporary textiles exhibition.

The Best of Welsh Design Awards are to be organised again with the submission date being brought forward this year to allow everyone a little more time to submit the very best of their work from the last year and the Best of Welsh Design Graduate Awards will also run again. What this space for details.

If you couldn’t make it on Monday it’s not to late to get involved, organise an event, a talk, a seminar, a social or anything else that spotlights design. Just get in contact and we can talk through your ideas and how to make them work - Olwen Moseley - omoseley@uwic.ac.uk or Angie Dutton -adutton@uwic.ac.uk.
