Frocks from rocks on the telly

Cardiff Design Festival award winning designer Professor Richard Weston stars in BBC2's Next Big Thing documentary at 8pm on Tuesday 12 April. The programme, hosted by Dragon and retail entrepreneur Theo Paphitis, follows the journey to market of a handful of products developed by desigers from across the UK selected by the buyuers at the exclusive department store, Liberty of London.

Festival 11 - quick update on plans

Brains were buzzing on Monday night with about 40 designers, architects and design thinkers meeting up at Chapter to announce their plans the next Cardiff Design Festival, what events they would love to see run again and to generally discuss how the Festival can be developed. We want to it celebrate and promote design in the very best way it can.

Festival 11 planning meeting - Chapter, 6pm 4 April

We're holding our first planning meeting for the Cardiff Design Festival 11 tonight. Come along to give feedback from last year's Festival and tell us about your ideas and inspiration for 2011.

We're meeting in the First Space room from 6pm and the meeting kicks off at 6.30pm so we look forward to seeing you there.

Free enterprise and support for budding entrepreneurs

Budding entrepreneurs and expanding businesses are invited to attend a free event in Cardiff on 12 April, offering advice, encouraging business enterprise, and providing opportunities for funding.
Newly released figures show that Wales has suffered the biggest increase of business failures of any region in the UK during January-February this year when compared to the same period in 2010. The Capital Cardiff conference will help ensure that Welsh businesses have access to the expert advice they urgently need.

Professor Richard Weston, who had a very successful exhibition in the Morgan Arcade during last October’s Cardiff Design Festival, was profiled in the Independent on Sunday’s Style section this weekend. His scarves featuring magnified images of rocks and minerals are the season’s hit at Liberty of London, displayed alongside best sellers Kane and McQueen. Cardiff Design Festival 11 planning meeting - 4 April

We're kicking off the planning for Cardiff Design Festival ’11 with a meeting on Monday 4 April at Chapter Arts Centre 6pm to share ideas and gather inspiration.

We’re keen to get as many events, talks, exhibitions and happenings in the diary as soon as possible. Bring your ideas, thoughts and questions. We’d also love your feedback on last year’s Festival so that we can continue to spotlight and celebrate design in the best possible way this October.

We’ve booked the First Space (just off the bar) from 6pm and the meeting will start at 6.30pm so we look forward to seeing you there.

Colour and Trend forecasting event - the next decade plus S/S 2012

The Design Wales Forum will be holding its next Colour and Trend Froevcasting event on 25 March at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff. The day will be split two parts. The morning will be general consumer trends for the next decade, specifically 2012 with reference to colour and materials. The afternoon will be dedicated to the fashion and textile trends for S/S 2012. Delegates can go to Part One or Part Two or both.

People doing strange things with electricity - dorkbot #1

The dorkbot global network is made of groups of people "doing strange things with electricity". There are more than 100 groups worldwide, who meet at various intervals and present work in progress, experiments, hacks and other unexpected uses of technology. Members of dorkbot groups include artists, engineers, designers, musicians, hackers, curious types, no robots yet.

It was time to start a Cardiff dorkbot group, so here we go!
