blown branding & magazine design

Brief

Wales’ new bi-annual High Art magazine offering a passionate and personal take on Fashion, Music, Contemporary Photography, Performance Art and Literature. Blown was launched in late 2009. Britton Farley worked together with the Blown editorial team initially to research and develop the new brand then design the magazine. Guidelines, set values and personality were sought to represent a dynamic vision of creativity in Wales and internationally.

Result

Launched late 2009 with distribution in the UK and North America. Sales reports indicated the magazine selling out in New York, L.A. and London locations. It has a distinctive and sophisticated identity to give Wales an internationally recognised publication. “Blown fills a clear gap in the sheen of professionalism that now covers the arts in Wales. The end product glows as you pick it up. One of the best new start-ups cultural Wales has had in an age.” Peter Finch. Academi, Chief Executive

Solution

Autografik designed the entire magazine and brand identity. Inside the magazine we implemented a simple brand and grid style throughout representing a minimalist gallery feel keeping to a clean layout with sophisticated typography implementing key layouts for editorial sections. Design services on this project also included creating merchandising materials, promotional materials and bilingual promotional campaigns.
