To design a range of contemporary coat racks and key racks that can be easily batch produced in the MijMoj workshop that would appeal to design conscious individuals. Ideally the range should make use of common components to reduce manufacturing cost and use timber ‘off cuts’ from other furniture projects, improving the environmental credentials of the range.
Result
The racks have been strong products in the new MijMoj range launched this year, allowing products to be submitted into several galleries and sold through shops as well as securing exhibition invitations and commission work. By using wood off cuts from other furniture projects, the range allows ‘fire wood’ to be used to create original pieces of functional wall art with both financial and environmental benefits for the company.
Solution
The range developed included the ‘No idea Coat Rack’ and ‘Asymmetric Blocks’ made from oak, Perspex pegs and stainless steel inlay provides the ideal solution to store coats, bags, hats and keys, an original feature to adorn any wall or hall way. Although batch produced each rack varies in the block layout and the size of blocks used to create the piece providing every customer with a unique piece of functional wall art.
