Brief

To create a piece of small scale furniture. An object instantly recognised as useful, but also to give delight in appearance and quality. To provide a means of storing and displaying books, magazines and electronic media A piece viable either as a bespoke product, or with sufficient simplicity to be produced in larger volumes The form informed by it’s function. It should maintain it’s aesthetic appeal when full or empty. Items stored should add to the personality of the piece

Result

Launched in June 2010 at The Guardian, Hay Festival. Bookie Design was well received with very encouraging sales It attracted much attention. Spotted by Dylan Jones, Classic Bookie was featured in August edition of GQ . Also covered in local and national press Commissioned to make a number of bespoke Hardwood versions of product, notably by American Hardwood Export Council

Solution

‘Classic Bookie’. Inspired by the Penguin Donkey, a compact piece measuring 287mm wide by 535mm high. A reader’s companion, designed to comfortably hold 12 magazines, 1 newspaper, 20 paperbacks, 4 larger hardbacks, lap-top, I-pad, I-pod, glasses, pens and a cup of tea. Hand assembled and hand finished in water based organic paint and natural oil lacquer finish. It’s counterpart, a bespoke hardwood version is of similar size and storage capacity
