A project to design and produce children’s T shirts and ‘hoodies’
Brief
The project brief is to design and produce T shirts and ‘hoodies’ in partnership with Angels & Demons
That, firstly, reflect the beauty of Langland Bay (see Supporting Image 1); secondly, reflect the bobbidob brand and are unique, ‘green’ simple, innocent flavour and take their inspiration from the land and seascapes of Wales; and thirdly, are commercially viable, of good quality, washable and marketable at a price advantageous to both retailer and designer.
Result
The T shirts and ‘hoodies’ are selling tremendously well. Angels & Demons are delighted. Cathy Curran, the owner, says that the T shirts and ‘hoodies’ are her ‘best selling items’ and that she ‘couldn’t be more pleased with the way things are going’. The ‘buzz’ for bobbidob is immense. It is difficult in the hard, competitive business world to combine artistic desire to make a unique and beautiful product with securing appropriate financial reward. This project has shown that it can be done.
Solution
Two designs were agreed. The first design, for girls, is an image of a Langland Bay beach hut (see Supporting Image 2). A Langland Bay beach sign ‘connects’ the image to the location. Buttons represent the pebbles on the beach and the doorknobs of the beach huts. Sand, sea and sky make up the background. The second design, for boys, is an image of a Volkswagen camper van (see Supporting Images 3 and 4). In this case, buttons represent the headlights of the camper van.
