seren books

Brief

Seren is a traditional Welsh publisher based in Bridgend. They specialise in publishing poetry and literature with a Welsh connection, either written by the Welsh or heavily featuring Wales. As a small independent publisher, Seren required a confident identity that would allow them to compete with their larger competition, step into the international marketplace and improve their brand awareness in the rest of the UK and America.

Result

“We're delighted. The response has been universally admiring, cementing relationships with existing customers and drawing in new traffic. Videos are watched, content read, enquiries made and books sold; customers enjoy visiting the new website, which in turn means authors and staff feel better connected with an audience which has traditionally bought or used our titles through third parties i.e. bookshops, libraries or big online retailers.” Mick Felton - Publisher Seren Books

Solution

To differentiate Seren and make their books jump from the bookshelves we created a confident, traditional design with a modern twist. The logotype created from scratch implies a sense of traditional printing / publishing heritage and every letterform stems from the star. The immediately recognisable icon can be used as a standalone star, dog-eared page or profile view of an open book. The colour palette is reminiscent of the night sky, accented with teal to appeal to a female audience.
