Mostyn Gallery branding

Brief

Mostyn gallery has established an enviable reputation for contemporary art. This brief was to design a new brand identity for the organisation. The design should reflect the values of the organisation and promote the venue as Wales' foremost contemporary art gallery. Our client wanted us to consider a typographical logo for the newly named 'Mostyn', dropping the Oriel. They required a clean and simple design with imagery becoming the focal point for any other brand communications.

Result

The result is an impressive new brand which has received excellent feedback from the public and which competes with the UK’s most prominent arts organisations.

Solution

Designer Dan Thomas created the new brand identity. The gallery building combines the old façade with the new modern architecture. The link between these two parts is the gold spire of the old facade and the bright angular feature at the rear. As a reference to this, the angular tip of the ‘M’ has been cropped and replaced with a gold shape. The logotype is based on the uppercase of Claude Sans with adjusted letter-spacing to enhance legibility when placed on photographic backgrounds.
