The Best of Welsh Design awards talented designers and design thinkers across Wales.
The Best of Welsh Design awards the wealth of talented designers and design thinkers in the city and across Wales and it’s the festival’s mission to ensure that their skills and passion are recognised. Judged by a panel of international design experts, projects from any design discipline will be rewarded, raising their profile during the festival and beyond.
The emphasis for the awards is on results; not just what looks great but on what impact has been made.
Submissions are made online through the website, creating a gallery of work. The submissions are then shortlisted and appear in the Best of Welsh Design Showcase which launches the Festival at the Senedd on the 1st October and then travels to the Wales Millennium Centre and onwards throughout the year to other public venues.
Work chosen for the Showcase is deemed to be of noteworthy national standard, suitable to represent the talent of the Welsh design community anywhere in the world (the Showcase has previously been in the Dutch Design Week and Istanbul Design Week)
The winners of the Cardiff Design Festival Awards will be announced at the Awards evening. This work will have been deemed outstanding and of international standard. It goes without saying that it will be innovative and original.
Winners in the past have been a floating office, branding for a company of accountants, TV event branding, an interior scheme for a ski chalet, an environmental animation, a ‘cradle to cradle’ office chair, an interactive big picture, beer bottle branding and a half marathon website.
